“Swedes making music without any rules” – that’s how They Owe Us describe themselves. Their “No rules” philosophy can also be seen by the way they answered the questions for their “Say it with music” feature: sometimes no songs, sometimes several, as it fits the given situation. However, this strategy worked very well and has created a unique playlist that will give you a deeper understanding of the duo from Sweden.
I’m a fan of mixtapes, always have been. I crave for a mixtape/playlist, their randomness makes me want to go on tour. You never know what's around the corner.
Håkan Hellström – Kärlek är ett brev skickat tusen gånger
Håkan with friends. Kind of helps me out when I’m lovesick and homesick.
War – Low Rider & KISS – C’mon and Love Me
For this question I must swing you two songs.
“Low Rider” is just bullseye perfect, but “C’mon and Love Me” is kind of my early childhood, and it’s got a brilliant sound and performance. Also one of the coolest album covers out there.
Only happened a few times. When that happens though, I need silence to grasp the world.
Ola Magnell – Tomma tunnor
This is a masterpiece. Well written and it would suit my funeral, I hope.
Carola – Du försvinner i natten
Pretty bad ass arrangement on this one, I like it a lot. The holy-jesus-OMG-khaki-pants-and-my-mother-is-my-best-friend-sound and attitude suits this tune.
Bon Iver – The wolves (Act I and II)
Something chill, I bet it would be household favorite; Bon Iver. The wolves got something calm and messy going on, like I want my shows to end up. Calm and messy.
Nationalteatern – Speedy Gonzales
No idea what songs they played. My mother brought me, but I am definitely a fan. Music for the people, very much 70´s.
Norah Jones – How I Weep
I've got a huge crush on Norah Jones. I met her once, she's even more beautiful and warm in real life. I listen to her music and wish to be in her band. Furthermore, this tune is a killer composition.
I don't listen to music when I'm angry.
The Velvet Underground – Sweet Jane
That is THE song.
Scorpions – Speedy’s Coming
I love this song; you don't want the party or the song to end. Scorpions earlier work really, really make sense to me.
Eric Clapton – Willie and the Hand Jive
That depends on so many things, right? But 70´s Bob Dylan often does the trick. Or Clapton’s “461 Oceans Boulevard” – that album in particular is a very warm album. Would love to feel electricity and love, with that song in the background:
Neville Sigauke – Simudza Gumba: Aluta Continua
This song should be on every radio station WORLD WIDE. Neville is a true music-passion-person, humble and unique. This artist got "it"!
They Owe Us – Aim To Please
Tough question, not a fan of encores. But it would be awesome to re-enter the stage with a hardcore Christian gospel choir. And Nels Cline on electric guitar, playing this song.
