In recent weeks, several exciting acts have joined Fanklub – among them the rising Swiss artist To Athena.

She shares her motivation in her own words: "I’ve realized how hard it is to truly connect with you on social media. And honestly, sometimes it just feels strange to keep posting about my music when there’s so much happening in the world that feels bigger and more important. So I started looking for a space where I can share things more directly – and that’s how I found Fanklub."

Alongside To Athena, other established artists have also launched their own clubs – including Lemony Rug, best known as the singer of the band Bilbao, and Sophie Chassée, live bassist for AnnenMayKantereit.

Just like last year, Fanklub invites you to Graansilo on the Friday of the Eurosonic Festival in 2024. The perfect start to what may be the last evening in Groningen for many delegates.

In a nice atmosphere and with fine drinks, we look forward to discussing the challenges for artists in 2024 and how Fanklub as a direct-to-fan solution can help to build sustainable fan relationships and generate income.

The Berlin musician LIN launches her own fan club.
On her motivation and hopes, LIN writes: "Being on tour is my everyday life, I'm on the road playing live music on stages in Germany and neighboring countries. I need all the support I can get on this life path I have chosen for myself with music."

Fanklub visited Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg once again. To kick things off, we invited to a reception at the Grüner Jäger on Wednesday. It was great to see so many familiar and interested faces! The showcase that followed featured four compelling live acts: Mina Richman (photo), Noth, C'est Karma and Ellison. Fanklub artists also played at the festival, including Paula Paula and AYMZ.

Next to the the official program, Fanklub once again invited music managers to an exclusive Speak Ösi dinner to discuss Fanklub's ideas: direct-to-fan communication and new revenue streams for artists. Thanks for the good talks & also to the Reeperbahn Festival, see you next year!

AYMZ is the new music project of the artist previously known as Amy Wald. Since the new start in February 2022 a lot has happened: An appearance at the WDR Rockpalast, release of the debut album "PYROLYSE", first own headlining tour with eleven stops in Germany and Austria, support tour with YAENNIVER with nine concerts and first festival and CSD appearances. With an appearance on the mainstage of the LIDO Sounds Festival, another milestone is on the agenda in 2023.

Before AYMZ outed themselves non-binary, the predecessor project Amy Wald already distinguished itself in the music scene in Austria and Germany with German pop songs that offered a reflection and identification surface for young LGBTQIA+ members, and along with it a very loyal community.

Swiss band Black Sea Dahu have recapped their first 200 days on Fanklub in a video.

Singer Janine Cathrein explains:
„We have established a small community of passionate hardcore fans [...], it's pure and genuine love and support. We're meeting in this small circle of cool people contrary to social media which often feels like it swallows you up.“
 

She adds: „I think it provides a direct way for fans to give back to us. It already makes a huge difference in our lives - it pays our bills literally. We can pay our bandroom bill, we can pay our warehouse bill. It makes our lives easier and has a real impact.“
 

Regarding the challenges, she says:
„I think the biggest challenge remains to confidently tell people about Fanklub and encourage them to join, because it feels like begging most of the time. Which is weird, because it's the most logical thing as an artist to want to strengthen this connection to your fans, to your crowd. It's the most important aspect of our future as artists.“
 

Janine Cathrein concludes by summarizing it as follows:
„I experience Fanklub as a means to bridge the gap in this fan-artist relationship and it makes a deeper connection. For me as an artist as well - I get to take part in the live of my fans and in this connection that they have with my music.“

Are you already looking forward to summer? After the last cold farewell greetings of winter, the festival season can finally get off to a good start. Since Wednesday, for example, the c/o pop in Cologne is in full swing, where Fanklub is of course present and, even better, highcoast is also on site. The Hamburgers will release their new EP tomorrow, Friday, April 22nd, then take over the Fanklub instagram account and take you with them when they rock das Werk Haus on Saturday as part of the c/o Ehrenfeld! Reason enough to introduce the guys in a ‘Our best fan moment’ extended.

Live music, sustainability, literature, workshops and northern European culture – the Norden Festival offers all that and more. And you now have the chance to be part of the line-up, because Fanklub has reserved you a slot in the official program for Friday, September 09.

Juri Volta is a small town hero who enjoys life to the fullest. For you and all those who don’t have enough courage or time to do it themselves. And that’s why he plunges head first into crazy adventures.

“Mom, I am a rich man” – Well, who knows who that quote came from? Cher, of course. Her response to her mother’s statement that one day she should settle down and marry a rich man has almost achieved cult status. The quote is also part of the inspiration for the Mina Richman, the stage name of 23-year-old Mina Schelpmeier. And, independence and a critical attitude towards classic gender roles can be found not only in the origin of her name, but also in her music and texts.

Acoustic music, flowing poetry, a single and a place – sodL just released “eine farbe, schlafendes kind”. The young artist from Upper Austria has recently started her Fanklub where you can explore the gap between fantasy and magic that sodL combines in her songs. For you and us she painted a picture as to where the new music will take you:

“Half Americana and half Abbey Road-worthy pop” – This description by the Rolling Stone could sum up the dichotomy of Ian Fisher very well. His move from the US to Europe did not mean he abandoned those American influences, rather he saw and acknowledged the good and the bad from both sides. In just under two months, this year’s c/o pop starts in Cologne, and Highcoast will be there. The surf rock band managed to secure the Fanklub slot and will share the festival line-up with greats like Bilderbuch, Buntspecht or C’est Karma.

A mix of dark, experimental pop and R&B, that’s how you could describe Emma Philine’s “17 2 20”. The newcomer’s first EP, which was released at the beginning of January, was even better received than she could have imagined. Together with her producer Dennis Behrendt aka Zoetrop she made it onto three official playlists straight away and now, just over a month after the release, she already has 15,000 listeners per day on Spotify. Celia May is still young. She has only released two songs. But “Before I Sleep” and “Enough” already paint such a promising picture that we want to know more about the young artist and are already looking forward to the upcoming EP in the summer. If so, we have great news for you!

The idea for Fanklub was born almost 1 ½ years ago, at the time of the first lockdown. The manager of the Latvian band Carnival Youth, Guna Zučika, told us about her plan to start an exclusive fan club for the band.
 

"There are so many loyal fans, the concerts were well sold. But now everything is canceled and without this income it will be hard for us."

We liked the direct-to-fan approach and started to think bigger about the concept: because Carnival Youth are not the only ones who have numerous fans and yet struggle to practice their art. There were many media reports that drew attention to the precarious situation of musicians in the pandemic and we also know through our years of work in the industry: It is already an effort to recoup the costs of a studio production, record production, PR and marketing, and then we have not even talked about earning a euro. The lack of concert income only pushes the problem to the top and thus many musicians to the edge of their existence.

But perhaps this lowest point holds the chance for change: many music fans have been sensitized in recent months to the fact that bands can't live on air and love. It is not a given to produce a new album and come on tour every two years. Most fans also know that streaming revenue has so far failed to compensate for the loss of recorded music sales.

That's why we believe that now is the right time for Fanklub. It is needed because musicians get back more than just a like. The social networks require a lot of financial investment from the bands to really reach all the followers. At Fanklub, the bands receive the well-deserved appreciation, also for the time consuming work they do besides the music. Every post that bands share on their profiles reaches every fan. And through Fanklub the bands earn money. 90% of the proceeds from fan contributions go directly to the bands. Every month. No matter if there's a pandemic that messes up the tour or not.

When the three of us finally get to see bands on stage again these days and cheer for them – even if at a distance - we wish that Fanklub would give them hope.
We wish that young musicians feel encouraged by Fanklub to live out their creativity without worry of not being able to make a living from it. Also, established bands should be given an ideal fanbase management tool.
If the three of us may issue an invitation, then it goes to all of you: All bands, DJs, musicians, starting with absolute newcomers up to the really big acts. You are all welcome at Fanklub! Genre, age and origin do not matter. Fanklub stands for openness, diversity and tolerance. Accordingly, sexist, racist, national socialist or homophobic content will not be tolerated.

About us:
The three founders of Fanklub - Andreas Jantsch, Arne Thamer and Sebastian Król - have been firmly anchored in the independent music scene for many years. Andreas founded the Viennese indie label LasVegas Records in 2005, which also rents out tour buses and rehearsal rooms. Arne and Sebastian currently run the music company Backseat in Hamburg, a PR agency and indie label. Backseat is also responsible for the music booking of the NORDEN Festival in Schleswig and for the activities of the Czech music export agency SoundCzech in Germany. Besides Andreas, Arne and Sebastian are more or less professionally active as musicians themselves.

For a great start in the weekend, we have decided to tell you about live music, parties and dancing. Perhaps due to the current situation not so easy to actually implement and therefore, not really fair on our part.
